1. Total Eleven
One of the newer options worth trying
Total Eleven is a free browser football manager with a pixel-art presentation. You create a club — two colours, a crest, a kit, a stadium name — and take over a full squad in a shared league. From there the game is about the things a Hattrick player already enjoys: choosing a formation, mentality and style of play; setting training intensity for goalkeeping, tackling, passing, speed and shooting; bringing through youth academy players and scouted signings; bidding in transfer auctions; and expanding the stadium as the fanbase grows.
Seasons run across three divisions with promotion, relegation and recorded champions, plus cups, friendlies and a World Cup for national teams. Matches can be followed live with minute-by-minute commentary, but they are scheduled on a calendar, so you are never required to sit and watch.

Football Manager (Sports Interactive)
The deepest single-player management simulation, with licensed databases. It is installed software rather than a browser game, and it asks for considerably more time per session.

A family of online managers where clubs share leagues and fixtures run on a schedule. Formats vary widely, so look at how often matches are played before joining.
Classic PC managers
